Hi! My name is Ashley, and I am excited to help establish a second home for Greenwich Play in Boston! Born and raised in upstate New York, I was drawn to the cozy coastal towns and the vibrant history of New England. I moved to Boston in 2013, and what followed was a classic “girl meets boy” kind of story, which led to more permanent roots in Massachusetts.
I have always had an affinity for working with children, and knew from an early age that my career would involve teaching in some capacity. I went on to receive a degree in Childhood Education, and a Masters in Literacy Instruction, which led to my dream job in a small private school in Chestnut Hill. As I worked with the school’s youngest learners, I became increasingly interested in understanding how play can motivate problem solving and critical thinking skills. I felt there was more I could do to help families establish effective, integrated, and authentic learning opportunities outside of the classroom.
In 2021, I pressed pause on my teaching career, and welcomed two sweet little girls 16 months apart (Hello two under two). While I was confident with the products, games, and dramatic play opportunities within my home, I felt that both girls were becoming increasingly dependent on me to facilitate play. I soon realized that it wasn’t sustainable for any of us, and I had to adapt my understanding of space and independent engagement. I designed my home to reflect the needs of both of my girls - a vibrant, and active space for my oldest, and a calming yet physically stimulating space for my baby. With this, I discovered my passion for curating spaces that reflect the needs, and inspire the spirit of all that live within them.
When I discovered Greenwich play, I immediately connected with their mission, and haven’t looked back. How lucky am I to join this team of incredibly empowered and talented women? I can’t wait to bring your favorite purposeful play space designs to the Greater Boston Area!
